Liljas Plast Group focuses on sustainability
Today, it is important for companies to take responsibility along the entire value chain, from suppliers, employees and customers, for their social and environmental impact. Through an effective strategy, companies can have great influence and make a real difference. Liljas Plast Group is now investing even more in sustainability by hiring a sustainability manager.
Graduate skills
During her studies, Madeleine worked at Liljas Plast as a machine operator for three years. In the spring of 2021, she graduated as a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management from Linnaeus University in Växjö and then chose to move home and continue her journey at Lilja's Plast in Hillerstorp. Madeleine grew up in Forsheda outside Värnamo and has always intended to move home after graduation as the area is industrially dense with good job opportunities.
- I appreciate that Liljas Plast Group has invested in me as a new graduate and given me the development opportunities I need.
Madeleine is Liljas Plast Group's new sustainability manager and has since April this year worked with project management and coordination of Liljas Plast Group's own sustainability work at the subsidiaries Liljas Plast, Bobe and Polymega.
- I am responsible for sustainability and am in charge of the overall work, as sustainability affects everyone in the company," says Madeleine
Three out of four targets are set
The majority of the goals have been set, but the action plans are still in progress. She says that they have worked with sustainability in the past, but not as specifically as now. The plan is for the new sustainability work to be presented in a report in March 2023, which will be available to suppliers, customers, employees and other stakeholders.
The first objective relates to environmental impact and focuses on reducing Liljas Plast Group's combustible waste. As part of this work, they have planned the construction of a new environmental room to facilitate recycling. The plan is also to focus more on recycling in production, but also in the companies' shared kitchens. The measurement points in the targets have not yet been set, but are expected to be completed in the autumn.
Focus on employees and suppliers
The social objective concerns the employee wellness allowance. The plan is to increase the utilisation rate in order to have a healthier and fitter workforce.
- "We were surprised at how few people actually used their wellness allowance, which is obviously not good. Employees taking care of themselves has positive long-term effects," says Madeleine.
A target for suppliers has also been developed. The aim is for the largest and most important suppliers to sign a Code of Conduct to ensure fair working conditions, among other things. Liljas Plast Group places high demands on its suppliers, both in terms of plastic granules and components.
Madeleine concludes by saying that work is now underway and that it will be exciting to see the results of the initiative in March 2023.
